Acronychia oblongifolia

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Acronychia oblongifolia is a species of flowering plant in the Rutaceae family. It is commonly known as the White Aspen or Satinwood. This plant is native to Australia, specifically the rainforests of Queensland and New South Wales.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Acronychia oblongifolia is a small to medium-sized tree, typically reaching heights of 15 to 25 meters. The leaves are oblong in shape, hence the species name oblongifolia. The flowers are small, white, and fragrant, appearing in clusters. The fruit is a small, round, yellow berry.

Habitat and Distribution[edit | edit source]

The Acronychia oblongifolia is found in the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia, from the McPherson Range in southern Queensland to the Hunter River in New South Wales. It prefers well-drained soils in sheltered locations, often growing in the understorey of tall rainforests.

Uses[edit | edit source]

The fruit of the Acronychia oblongifolia is edible, with a tangy flavor. It has been used by Indigenous Australians as a food source. The wood of the tree is also used in the manufacture of furniture and cabinetry due to its fine grain and satin-like finish.

Conservation[edit | edit source]

While not currently listed as threatened, the Acronychia oblongifolia is vulnerable to habitat loss due to deforestation and land development. Conservation efforts are focused on preserving its natural habitat and promoting sustainable harvesting practices.
