The kiwifruit is the most well-known and economically important species, with New Zealand being a major producer, followed by countries like Italy, Chile, and Greece. Cultivation requires careful management of vines, including pruning and support, as the plants can grow vigorously. Actinidia species are also used in traditional Chinese medicine and as dietary supplements due to their high Vitamin C content and other nutritional benefits.

While some species of Actinidia are widely cultivated, others are rare and face threats from habitat loss and over-collection. Conservation efforts are important to preserve the genetic diversity within the genus, which can be crucial for breeding programs and ensuring the long-term viability of commercial species like the kiwifruit.
