Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945) was a German politician and leader of the Nazi Party who rose to power as Chancellor of Germany in 1933, and later Führer in 1934, ruling Germany during World War II until his suicide in 1945. Hitler is best known for initiating World War II and for his central role in the implementation of the Holocaust, which led to the genocide of approximately 6 million Jews.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Adolf Hitler was born on 20 April 1889 in Braunau am Inn, a town in Austria-Hungary. His father, Alois Hitler, was a stern and volatile man, while his mother, Klara Hitler, was a gentle and nurturing woman. Hitler had a tumultuous childhood, marked by frequent conflicts with his authoritarian father.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Hitler's political career began in Munich when he joined the German Workers' Party (DAP) in 1919. The DAP would later be reorganized to become the Nazi Party, with Hitler as its leader. Hitler's charismatic speeches and propaganda played a significant role in his rise to power.

World War II[edit | edit source]

As the leader of Nazi Germany, Hitler initiated World War II with the invasion of Poland in 1939. His aggressive foreign policies and expansionist ideology are often considered to be the causes of the start of the war.

The Holocaust[edit | edit source]

Hitler's virulent anti-Semitism and belief in the racial superiority of the Aryan race led to the implementation of the Holocaust, which resulted in the genocide of approximately 6 million Jews.

Death[edit | edit source]

Adolf Hitler died by suicide in his bunker in Berlin on 30 April 1945. His death marked the end of Nazi Germany and the beginning of a period of denazification in the country.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Hitler's legacy is universally regarded as one of the most infamous in history. His policies caused the deaths of an estimated 70-85 million people, approximately 3% of the world population at the time.
