Aestuariibaculum

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Aestuariibaculum is a genus of bacteria from the family of Rhodobacteraceae. The genus was first described in 2014, and currently includes two species: Aestuariibaculum suncheonense and Aestuariibaculum scopariae. These bacteria are typically found in marine environments, particularly in tidal flats and coastal areas.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Members of the Aestuariibaculum genus are Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria. They are facultatively anaerobic, meaning they can survive in both oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor environments. These bacteria are also halophilic, or salt-loving, and are typically found in environments with high salt concentrations.

Species[edit | edit source]

Aestuariibaculum suncheonense[edit | edit source]

Aestuariibaculum suncheonense was the first species to be identified within the Aestuariibaculum genus. It was isolated from a tidal flat in Suncheon Bay, Korea. This species is characterized by its ability to produce a yellow pigment.

Aestuariibaculum scopariae[edit | edit source]

Aestuariibaculum scopariae was identified in 2016. It was isolated from the root of a halophyte, or salt-tolerant plant, called Scoparia dulcis. This species is characterized by its ability to produce a pink pigment.

Ecology[edit | edit source]

Aestuariibaculum species are typically found in marine environments, particularly in tidal flats and coastal areas. They play a role in the decomposition of organic matter and the cycling of nutrients in these environments.

Research and Applications[edit | edit source]

Research into Aestuariibaculum is ongoing, with potential applications in bioremediation and the production of bioactive compounds. However, more research is needed to fully understand the potential of this genus.
