Air Methods is an American privately owned helicopter operator. The company provides emergency medical services (EMS) to 48 states and Honduras. Air Methods is the largest provider of air medical transport services in the United States.

Air Methods was established in 1980, in Englewood, Colorado. The company was founded by Roy Morgan and began its operations using a single Bell 206 helicopter. Over the years, Air Methods has grown significantly, both organically and through acquisitions. Today, it operates a fleet of approximately 450 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

Air Methods provides air medical transport services to hospitals and communities as an independent service and as a hospital-based service. The company's fleet of owned, leased or maintained aircraft features over 450 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

Community-Based Services[edit | edit source]

Air Methods' Community-Based Services is a separately funded and operated air medical transport system. The helicopters and airplanes are staffed with a pilot, a flight nurse and a flight paramedic.

Hospital-Based Services[edit | edit source]

In the Hospital-Based Services model, the medical crew is typically employed by the hospital and the aircraft is owned and operated by Air Methods.

Fleet[edit | edit source]

Air Methods operates a fleet of helicopters and airplanes. The helicopters are primarily used for medical evacuations and are equipped with medical interiors. The airplanes are used for longer distance transports.
