Al-Jildaki

Al-Jildaki (also known as Al-Jaldaki) was a prominent Persian alchemist and physician who lived during the 14th century. His full name was Aydamur ibn Ali ibn Aydamur al-Jildaki and he was known for his extensive works on alchemy, medicine, and philosophy.

Life[edit | edit source]

Al-Jildaki was born in Iran and later moved to Egypt where he spent most of his life. He was a student of the famous alchemist Ibn Umail. His works were highly influential and were widely read in the Islamic world and in Europe.

Works[edit | edit source]

Al-Jildaki wrote several books on alchemy and medicine. His most famous work is Kitab al-Miftah, which is considered one of the most important books on alchemy. He also wrote Kitab al-Burhan on the theory and practice of alchemy, and Kitab al-Tasrif on medical treatments.

Alchemy[edit | edit source]

Al-Jildaki's works on alchemy were based on the teachings of Jabir ibn Hayyan, the father of Arab alchemy. He believed in the transmutation of base metals into gold and the existence of the philosopher's stone. His works were highly influential in the development of Islamic alchemy and later influenced European alchemists.

Medicine[edit | edit source]

In addition to his works on alchemy, Al-Jildaki also wrote extensively on medicine. His medical works were based on the teachings of Galen and Hippocrates, and he made significant contributions to the field of pharmacology. He wrote about the medicinal properties of plants and minerals, and his works were used as textbooks in Islamic medical schools.

Philosophy[edit | edit source]

Al-Jildaki was also a philosopher and his philosophical views were influenced by Sufism. He believed in the unity of existence and the interconnection of all things. His philosophical views were reflected in his works on alchemy and medicine.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Al-Jildaki's works were highly influential in the Islamic world and in Europe. His works on alchemy and medicine were translated into Latin and were widely read in Europe during the Middle Ages. His contributions to alchemy and medicine have been recognized by scholars and he is considered one of the greatest alchemists and physicians of the Islamic world.
