Alcohol group

Alcohol group refers to a hydroxyl functional group (-OH) that is part of an organic compound. It is derived from water, with one hydrogen atom replaced by an alkyl or aryl group. This group is a key component in various types of alcohols, including ethanol, methanol, and propanol.

Structure and Properties

The alcohol group consists of an oxygen atom bonded to a hydrogen atom (-OH). In an alcohol molecule, the oxygen atom is also connected to a carbon atom. Health Effects

While some alcohols, like ethanol, are safe to consume in moderation, others, like methanol, are toxic and can cause serious health problems if ingested. Long-term excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to alcoholism and various health issues, including liver disease and neurological damage.
