Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto de Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández ) (IATA: ALC, ICAO: LEAL) is an international airport located in El Altet, a district of Elche, in the province of Alicante, in the autonomous community of Valencian Community, Spain. The airport is named after the Spanish poet Miguel Hernández.

The airport was originally opened in 1967, replacing the older La Rabassa Airport. It has since undergone several expansions and renovations to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and flights. In 2011, a new terminal building, known as Terminal N, was inaugurated to handle the growing traffic.

Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has a single runway (10/28) with a length of 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) and an asphalt surface. The airport features a modern terminal building with various amenities, including shops, restaurants, and lounges. It also offers services such as car rental, parking, and public transportation connections.

The airport serves as a hub for several airlines, including Ryanair, Vueling, and EasyJet. It offers a wide range of domestic and international flights to destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Passenger Traffic[edit | edit source]

In 2019, Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport handled over 15 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in Spain. The airport also managed over 102,000 aircraft movements and processed approximately 3,011 tonnes of cargo.

The airport is well-connected to the surrounding areas through various modes of transportation. There are regular bus services to Alicante, Elche, and other nearby cities. Additionally, there are taxi services and car rental options available at the airport.

Future Developments[edit | edit source]

Plans for future developments at the airport include further expansion of the terminal facilities and improvements to the runway and taxiway systems to accommodate larger aircraft and increased passenger traffic.
