Amphiarthrosis

(am-fe-ar -thro' -sis) [am phi-; dpdpov, a joint]. A form of mixed articulation in which the surfaces of the bones are con- nected by broad discs of fibrocartilage or else are covered with fibro- cartilage and connected by external ligaments. It is distinguished by lim- ited flexion in every direc- tion, as, e.g., between the vertebras.
