Andrea Jung

Andrea Jung (born 1959) is a Canadian-American executive, non-profit leader, and prominent women's-issues supporter. She is currently the President and CEO of Grameen America, a nonprofit microfinance organization. Prior to this, she served as the CEO of Avon Products from 1999 to 2012.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Andrea Jung was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Chinese immigrants. She moved to the United States and grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She attended Princeton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 1979.

Career[edit | edit source]

Avon Products[edit | edit source]

In 1994, Jung joined Avon Products, a company known for its direct selling of beauty and personal care products. She held various roles in the company, including COO, before becoming CEO in 1999. Under her leadership, Avon became a globally recognized brand and the company's profits increased significantly. However, she resigned in 2012 following criticism over her handling of Avon's business model and allegations of bribery in China.

Grameen America[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Jung became the President and CEO of Grameen America, a nonprofit microfinance organization founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus. The organization provides microloans to low-income entrepreneurs in the United States. Under Jung's leadership, Grameen America has expanded its reach and increased its impact, helping thousands of women start and grow their own businesses.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Jung has received numerous awards and recognition for her leadership and contributions to women's empowerment. She has been named to Forbes' list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women multiple times. In 2010, she was awarded the Clinton Global Citizen Award for her leadership in civil society.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Jung is fluent in Mandarin and has two children. She serves on the boards of several organizations, including Apple Inc. and Daimler AG.
