Andrew Wight

Andrew Wight (1959–2012) was an Australian screenwriter and producer, best known for his work on the 3D film Sanctum, produced by James Cameron. Wight's career spanned over 30 years, during which he produced more than 45 films and documentaries, many of which focused on his passion for exploration and adventure.

Wight was born in 1959 in Australia. He developed a passion for exploration and adventure at a young age, which would later influence his career in film and documentary production. He studied at the University of Melbourne, where he earned a degree in Geology and Geophysics.

After graduating, Wight worked as a professional diver and explorer, leading several major expeditions around the world. His experiences as an explorer greatly influenced his later work in film and documentary production.

In the mid-1980s, Wight transitioned into film production. He worked on a number of documentaries, including Ghosts of the Abyss, Aliens of the Deep, and Expedition: Bismarck. These films often focused on exploration and adventure, reflecting Wight's personal interests.

In 2011, Wight produced the 3D film Sanctum, which was based on his own experiences as a cave diver. The film was produced by James Cameron, and was praised for its realistic depiction of cave diving.

Wight died in a helicopter crash in 2012, while scouting locations for a new film. His death was a significant loss to the film and exploration communities.

Wight's work continues to be celebrated for its focus on exploration and adventure. His films and documentaries have inspired many to pursue their own adventures and to appreciate the natural world.
