Andria (BA)

Andria is a city and commune in Apulia, a region of southern Italy. It is the fourth largest city in the region by population, and it is known for its historical sites, agricultural products, and as the home of the Castel del Monte.

The origins of Andria can be traced back to the 7th century BC, when it was founded by the Peucetians, an ancient Italic tribe. The city has seen various rulers over the centuries, including the Normans, the Swabians, and the Angevins. In the 13th century, the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II built the Castel del Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the vicinity of Andria.

Andria is located in the western part of the Apulia region, near the Adriatic Sea. The city is surrounded by extensive agricultural lands, where olives, grapes, and almonds are grown. The nearby Alta Murgia National Park is a significant natural attraction.

The economy of Andria is largely based on agriculture, with the city being a major producer of olive oil, wine, and almonds. The city is also known for its dairy products, particularly the Burrata cheese, which originated in Andria.
