Androstenediol 3-sulfate is a steroid sulfate that is an androgen metabolite. It is a sulfate conjugate of androstenediol.

Structure and Properties[edit | edit source]

Androstenediol is a steroid hormone. It is a prohormone of testosterone. The 3-sulfate form of androstenediol is a sulfate conjugate of androstenediol. The sulfate group is attached to the 3-position of the androstenediol molecule.

Biological Role[edit | edit source]

Androstenediol 3-sulfate is a metabolite of androgen metabolism. It is produced in the liver and is excreted in the urine. It is also found in the blood plasma.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

The levels of androstenediol 3-sulfate in the blood can be used as a biomarker for androgen activity. Increased levels of androstenediol 3-sulfate can indicate increased androgen activity, while decreased levels can indicate decreased androgen activity.
