Angelo Pagotto (born 21 April 1973) is a former Italian professional football player who played as a goalkeeper. Throughout his career, Pagotto is perhaps best known for his time at clubs such as Napoli, Sampdoria, and Perugia.
Club career[edit | edit source]
Angelo Pagotto began his professional career with Roma in the early 1990s but did not make any league appearances for the club. He was loaned out to several clubs in lower divisions to gain experience and playing time. His performances in the lower leagues led to a transfer to Napoli, where he had the opportunity to play in the Serie A, Italy's top football division.
During his tenure at Napoli, Pagotto showed promising skills but his career was marred by inconsistency and disciplinary issues. After Napoli, he moved to Sampdoria, where he continued to play in Serie A. His time at Sampdoria was also troubled, and he eventually moved to Perugia.
Pagotto's career faced significant challenges when he was banned from football for failing a drug test. This incident effectively ended his time at the top level of Italian football, and he subsequently played for lower league teams before retiring.
International career[edit | edit source]
Angelo Pagotto was part of the Italy under-21 national team but never made an appearance for the senior national team.
Post-playing career[edit | edit source]
After retiring from professional football, Pagotto's life continued to be troubled by personal issues and run-ins with the law, which received considerable media attention in Italy.
