Angelo Peruzzi (June 16, 1969) is a retired Italian professional football player who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Viterbo, Peruzzi is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and has had an illustrious career at both club and international levels.

Club Career[edit | edit source]

Peruzzi began his professional career with A.S. Roma in 1987, where he made his Serie A debut. However, it was with S.S.C. Napoli that he first made a significant impact, winning the Serie A title in the 1989-90 season. His performances for Napoli earned him a move to Juventus in 1991, where he enjoyed considerable success. During his time with Juventus, Peruzzi won three Serie A titles (1994-95, 1996-97, 1997-98), a Coppa Italia (1994-95), a UEFA Champions League (1995-96), and an Intercontinental Cup (1996), among other honors.

In 1999, Peruzzi transferred to S.S. Lazio, where he continued to add to his trophy collection, winning another Serie A title (1999-2000), two Coppa Italia titles (1999-2000, 2003-04), and a UEFA Super Cup (1999). He retired from professional football in 2007, after a distinguished career.

International Career[edit | edit source]

Peruzzi was also a key player for the Italy national football team, earning 31 caps between 1995 and 1998. He was part of the Italian squad that reached the final of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, although he did not play in the final match. Peruzzi also represented Italy in the Euro 1996 and was a member of the squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Style of Play[edit | edit source]

Peruzzi was known for his excellent shot-stopping abilities, quick reflexes, and commanding presence in the penalty area. Despite not being particularly tall for a goalkeeper, standing at 1.81 m, his agility and positional sense more than compensated for his lack of height.

Post-Retirement[edit | edit source]

After retiring from professional football, Peruzzi has been involved in football in various capacities, including serving as a goalkeeping coach and working in the management of football clubs.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Angelo Peruzzi is remembered as one of the finest goalkeepers of his era. His contributions to the clubs he played for, as well as the Italian national team, have left a lasting legacy in the world of football.
