Arran distillery
Arran Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Lochranza, Scotland. It is one of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland, and it is unique for its location on the Isle of Arran, one of the most beautiful and famous islands of Scotland.
History[edit | edit source]
The Arran Distillery was established in 1995, making it one of the newest distilleries in Scotland. Despite its relatively recent establishment, the distillery has quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality single malt whisky. The distillery was founded by Harold Currie, former director of Chivas and was the first legal distillery on the Isle of Arran since 1837.
Production[edit | edit source]
The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies using traditional methods. The water for the whisky comes from Loch na Davie, which is reputed to have the purest water in Scotland. The distillery uses only two pot stills in its production process, which allows for careful control over the distillation process. The whisky is then aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-wine casks, to create a range of flavours and styles.
Products[edit | edit source]
Arran Distillery produces a wide range of whiskies, including the classic Arran Malt, which is available in a range of ages from 10 to 21 years. They also produce a number of limited edition whiskies, such as the Arran Gold Cream Liqueur and the Arran Single Cask, which are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs.
Visitor Centre[edit | edit source]
The distillery has a visitor centre that offers guided tours of the distillery, whisky tastings, and a shop selling Arran whiskies and other products. The visitor centre is a popular tourist attraction on the Isle of Arran, attracting whisky enthusiasts from around the world.
