Ascidiaceihabitans
Ascidiaceihabitans is a genus of bacteria from the family of Microbacteriaceae. The genus was first described in 2014, and currently includes two species: Ascidiaceihabitans ascidiicola and Ascidiaceihabitans donghaensis. These bacteria are known to inhabit marine environments, particularly the ascidian, a type of marine invertebrate also known as a sea squirt.
Taxonomy[edit | edit source]
The genus Ascidiaceihabitans belongs to the family Microbacteriaceae, which is part of the order Actinomycetales, class Actinobacteria, phylum Actinobacteria, and domain Bacteria. The genus was first described in 2014 by a team of researchers led by Y. Kim.
Species[edit | edit source]
Currently, there are two recognized species within the genus Ascidiaceihabitans:
- Ascidiaceihabitans ascidiicola - This species was first isolated from the ascidian Styela clava. It is a Gram-positive, non-motile, and non-spore-forming bacterium.
- Ascidiaceihabitans donghaensis - This species was first isolated from seawater in the East Sea, South Korea. It is a Gram-positive, non-motile, and non-spore-forming bacterium.
Habitat and ecology[edit | edit source]
Ascidiaceihabitans species are known to inhabit marine environments. They have been isolated from ascidians, a type of marine invertebrate also known as sea squirts, and from seawater. Ascidians are filter feeders that play a crucial role in marine ecosystems, and the presence of Ascidiaceihabitans in these organisms suggests a potential symbiotic relationship.
Research and applications[edit | edit source]
Research into Ascidiaceihabitans is still in its early stages, and much remains to be learned about these bacteria. However, their presence in ascidians and seawater suggests potential applications in marine biotechnology and environmental monitoring.
