Ashland County, Wisconsin
Ashland County, Wisconsin is a county located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,913. The county seat is Ashland. The county was created in 1860 and organized in 1864.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,292 square miles (5,937 km²), of which 1,045 square miles (2,707 km²) is land and 1,247 square miles (3,230 km²) (54%) is water. The county is known for its scenic beauty, including parts of the Chequamegon National Forest and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

As of the 2020 census, there were 15,913 people, 6,831 households, and 3,917 families residing in the county. The population density was 15 people per square mile (6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with significant populations of Native Americans and smaller percentages of other races.

Ashland County is served by several school districts, including the Ashland School District and the Mellen School District. Higher education is provided by Northland College in Ashland.

Major highways in Ashland County include U.S. Highway 2 and Wisconsin Highway 13. The county is also served by the Ashland County Airport.
