Atlantic City is a city located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. It is known for its casinos, boardwalk, and beaches. In 2010, it had a population of 39,558. The city also includes the Absecon Island on which it stands.

Atlantic City was incorporated on May 1, 1854, from portions of Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township. The city borders Absecon, Brigantine, Pleasantville, Ventnor City, Egg Harbor Township, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Atlantic City is known for its casino industry. The city also served as the inspiration for the original version of the board game Monopoly.

Many notable people have been born in, lived in, or associated with Atlantic City. These include Nucky Johnson, the inspiration for the TV series Boardwalk Empire, and Donald Trump, who owned several casinos in the city.
