BTG (company)
BTG is a multinational specialist healthcare company that has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. The company is known for its development and commercialization of products used in specialist treatment areas. BTG operates in three key areas: Interventional Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, and Licensing.

BTG was originally established in 1948 as the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to commercialize innovations arising from public sector research. In 1981, it was renamed the British Technology Group and later shortened to BTG. The company was privatized and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1995.
Operations[edit | edit source]
BTG's operations are divided into three main areas:
- Interventional Medicine: This division focuses on technologies for minimally invasive procedures. Products include beads for radioembolization and chemoembolization, a range of pneumothorax products, and varicose vein treatments.
- Pharmaceuticals: This division includes antidotes for snake venom and toxicity related to some heart and cancer medications. It also includes products for severe flu and cancer-related nausea.
- Licensing: BTG earns royalties from licensed technology, including the pulsed dye laser and the epilepsy drug Lamictal.
Acquisitions[edit | edit source]
BTG has made several significant acquisitions to expand its product portfolio and geographical reach. These include Protherics, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in critical care and cancer; Biocompatibles, a company known for its drug-eluting beads; and PneumRx, a pulmonary medical device company.
