Back Yard Burgers, Inc. is an American fast food chain that specializes in charbroiled burgers. The company was founded in Cleveland, Mississippi in 1987 by Lattimore Michael.

Lattimore Michael, a native of Cleveland, Mississippi, founded Back Yard Burgers in 1987. The first location was a double drive-thru. The concept quickly gained popularity, and by 1988, the first franchised location opened.

Back Yard Burgers' menu primarily consists of charbroiled burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads. The company is known for its Black Angus burgers, which are made from 100% Black Angus beef. In addition to its signature burgers, the chain also offers a variety of other items, including vegetarian options and a kids' menu.

Back Yard Burgers began franchising in 1988, just a year after its founding. The company has since expanded to over 50 locations across the United States, primarily in the Southeast. Back Yard Burgers is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The company has undergone several changes in ownership and leadership over the years. In 2007, it was acquired by private equity firm Sun Capital Partners. In 2012, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but emerged from bankruptcy in 2013.
