Bakhsh
Bakhsh is a term used in Iran and Pakistan to describe a type of administrative division. The term is used in different contexts in the two countries, but in both cases, it refers to a subdivision of a larger administrative unit. In Iran, a Bakhsh is a part of a larger county, while in Pakistan, it is a subdivision of a Tehsil.
Iran[edit | edit source]
In Iran, a Bakhsh is a part of a larger county, known as a Shahrestan. Each Shahrestan is divided into one or more Bakhsh, and each Bakhsh is further divided into one or more Rural Districts. The administrative center of a Bakhsh is called the Central District.
There are usually a few cities and rural agglomerations in each Bakhsh. The cities have their own mayors and councils, while the rural agglomerations are overseen by a district governor.
Pakistan[edit | edit source]
In Pakistan, a Bakhsh is a subdivision of a Tehsil. Tehsils are part of a larger administrative unit known as a District. Each Tehsil is divided into several Bakhsh, and each Bakhsh is further divided into several Union Councils.
The administrative center of a Bakhsh in Pakistan is usually a large town or a small city. The Bakhsh is overseen by a Tehsildar, who is responsible for maintaining law and order and collecting taxes.
