Barbara Bertha Ball (13 June 1924 – 13 March 2011) was a Bermudian physician and politician. She is notable for being the first Bermudian woman to practice medicine in Bermuda and for her significant contributions to the labor movement and social justice in the country.

Barbara Ball was born in Bermuda on 13 June 1924. She pursued her medical education in the United Kingdom, where she graduated from the University of London with a degree in medicine. After completing her studies, she returned to Bermuda to begin her medical practice.

Medical Career[edit | edit source]

Upon her return to Bermuda, Ball became the first Bermudian woman to practice medicine in the country. She worked at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and later opened her own private practice. Her dedication to providing medical care to all segments of society, including the underprivileged, earned her widespread respect and admiration.
