Doping Controversy[edit | edit source]
Like many athletes from East Germany during this period, Krause's career has been overshadowed by allegations of state-sponsored doping. The East German doping program was a systematic effort to enhance athletic performance through the use of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. Krause, like many of her teammates, has been associated with this program, although she has never been personally implicated in any wrongdoing.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
After retiring from competitive swimming, Krause pursued a career outside of sports. She has remained relatively private about her personal life.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Barbara Krause is remembered as one of the most successful swimmers of her time, despite the controversies surrounding the East German doping program. Her achievements in the pool remain a testament to her talent and dedication to the sport.
