Basti (Panchakarma)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Basti is one of the five main procedures in Panchakarma, a traditional Ayurvedic medicine method used to purify the body. The procedure involves the administration of medicated oils, decoctions, or ghee through the rectum using a special Basti instrument. The goal of Basti is to remove toxins from the body, improve digestion, and balance the doshas (energy channels in the body). Basti can be administered as part of a full Panchakarma treatment or as a standalone procedure.
