Early Life[edit | edit source]
Klassen was born in the Ukraine to a family of Mennonites, a Christian sect known for its pacifism and commitment to a simple lifestyle. His family emigrated to Mexico in 1925, and then to the United States in 1945. Klassen became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1949.
Career[edit | edit source]
Klassen had a varied career before founding the Church of the Creator. He was a real estate developer, an electrical engineer, and a Florida state legislator. In the 1960s, he became involved in segregationist politics, joining the John Birch Society and running for office on a platform of racial segregation.
Church of the Creator[edit | edit source]
In 1973, Klassen founded the Church of the Creator with the publication of his book Nature's Eternal Religion. The church promotes what it calls "Creativity," a religion that worships the white race and seeks its survival and advancement. Klassen served as the church's leader until his death in 1993.
