Benno C. Schmidt Sr.
Benno C. Schmidt Sr. (January 10, 1913 – October 21, 1999) was an influential American lawyer and venture capitalist. He is best known for his role in the development of the National Cancer Institute and his contributions to the field of venture capital.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Benno Charles Schmidt Sr. was born in Abilene, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He later attended Columbia Law School, graduating with a law degree.

Schmidt began his career as a lawyer in New York City. He quickly gained a reputation for his legal acumen and was involved in several high-profile cases. His legal career laid the foundation for his later work in venture capital.
National Cancer Institute[edit | edit source]
One of Schmidt's most notable contributions was his involvement in the establishment of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He played a crucial role in securing funding and support for the NCI, which has since become a leading institution in cancer research and treatment.
