Benrinnes distillery
Benrinnes Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Aberlour, Scotland. It is owned by Diageo, a multinational alcoholic beverages company. The distillery is known for producing single malt whisky, a type of whisky made from malted barley in one distillery.
History[edit | edit source]
The Benrinnes Distillery was established in 1826 by Peter Mackenzie, Richard Gordon and William Mackenzie. The distillery was destroyed by a flood in 1829 and was subsequently rebuilt. In 1864, the distillery was purchased by David Edward, who also owned the Craigellachie Distillery. The distillery was further expanded and modernized under Edward's ownership.
Production[edit | edit source]
The Benrinnes Distillery uses traditional pot stills for distillation. The distillery has a production capacity of 2.5 million litres of alcohol per year. The whisky produced at Benrinnes is known for its rich and full-bodied flavor, which is often described as "meaty". This unique flavor profile is a result of the distillery's complex distillation process, which includes partial triple distillation.
Products[edit | edit source]
The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Benrinnes 15 Year Old and the Benrinnes 23 Year Old. These whiskies are known for their complex flavor profiles, which include notes of fruit, spice, and oak. The whiskies produced at Benrinnes are often used in blends, such as Johnnie Walker and J&B.
