Bernard Debré
Bernard Debré (30 September 1944 – 13 September 2020) was a French urologist and politician. He was a member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and later The Republicans.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Bernard Debré was born in Toulon, France, into a prominent political family. He was the son of Michel Debré, a former Prime Minister of France, and the brother of Jean-Louis Debré, a former President of the French National Assembly and the Constitutional Council.
Debré pursued his medical studies at the University of Paris, where he specialized in urology. He became a well-respected urologist and held several academic and hospital positions throughout his career.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Debré was a renowned urologist and served as the head of the urology department at the Hôpital Cochin in Paris. He was also a professor of urology at the University of Paris. His contributions to the field of urology were significant, and he published numerous articles and books on the subject.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Bernard Debré entered politics following in the footsteps of his father. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly for the first time in 1986, representing the Indre-et-Loire department. He served multiple terms in the National Assembly, representing different constituencies over the years.
Debré was also appointed as the Minister for Cooperation under Prime Minister Édouard Balladur from 1994 to 1995. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing France's relations with developing countries.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Bernard Debré was married and had four children. He was known for his dedication to both his medical and political careers. He passed away on 13 September 2020 at the age of 75.
