- Berwyn is a small, unincorporated community located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Philadelphia Main Line, a series of affluent Philadelphia suburban villages located along the railroad tracks of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Berwyn is located within Tredyffrin and Easttown townships.
History[edit | edit source]
- Berwyn was originally named Cocheltown, after the local tavern owner, Humphrey Cochell. The town was renamed in 1877 when the Pennsylvania Railroad built a station there. The new name was inspired by the Berwyn Hills in Wales.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Berwyn is located at 40°2′24″N 75°26′31″W. The community is primarily residential, with a small commercial district located along Lancaster Avenue.
Healthcare Facilities[edit | edit source]
- Berwyn is home to several well-known healthcare facilities.
- Main Line Health is a comprehensive healthcare resource with a network of physicians and healthcare professionals that includes four of the region’s most respected acute care hospitals. One of these is Paoli Hospital, located just a few miles west of Berwyn. Paoli Hospital is a 231-bed facility that provides comprehensive medical services, including a trauma center and a cancer center.
- Melmark is a multi-state human service provider with premier private special education schools, professional development, training, and research centers. It is headquartered in Berwyn.

- Berwyn is served by the SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale Line regional rail train and Route 92 bus. The community is also close to several major roads, including U.S. Route 202 and U.S. Route 30.
