Blanton's Bourbon

Blanton's is a brand of bourbon whiskey produced and marketed by the Sazerac Company. It is distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Blanton's is known for being the first single-barrel bourbon, a concept introduced by Elmer T. Lee in 1984.

History[edit | edit source]

Blanton's was named after Albert B. Blanton, a former president of the distillery. Blanton began working at the distillery in 1897 and became president in 1921. He was known for his dedication to quality and innovation in bourbon production. The single-barrel concept was inspired by Blanton's practice of bottling bourbon from a single barrel for his personal use and for special guests.

Production[edit | edit source]

Blanton's is made from a mash bill of corn, rye, and malted barley. The bourbon is aged in new charred oak barrels for a period of 6 to 8 years. Each bottle of Blanton's is hand-labeled and sealed with a wax top. The bottle is distinctive, with a round shape and a horse and jockey figurine on the stopper.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Blanton's offers several different expressions, including:

  • Blanton's Original Single Barrel
  • Blanton's Gold Edition
  • Blanton's Straight from the Barrel
  • Blanton's Special Reserve

Each variety has its own unique flavor profile, but all share the characteristic smoothness and complexity that Blanton's is known for.

Awards[edit | edit source]

Blanton's has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and high ratings from Whisky Advocate and Wine Enthusiast.
