From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Blinkit (formerly known as Grofers) is an Indian online grocery delivery service. It was founded in December 2013 and is based out of Gurugram. As of 2021, the service is available in 27 cities across India.

History[edit | edit source]

Blinkit was founded by Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar in 2013. The company initially operated on a business-to-business model, providing a platform for grocery stores to sell their products online. However, in 2015, it shifted to a business-to-consumer model, delivering groceries directly from warehouses to customers.

In 2021, the company rebranded itself as Blinkit, reflecting its commitment to deliver orders in 10 minutes.

Business Model[edit | edit source]

Blinkit operates on an inventory-led model. It has a network of partner stores that supply the inventory. The company uses its proprietary technology to route orders to the nearest partner store, which ensures quick delivery.

Funding[edit | edit source]

Blinkit has raised multiple rounds of funding from investors such as SoftBank, Sequoia Capital, and Tiger Global. As of 2021, the company has raised over $1 billion in funding.

Criticism[edit | edit source]

Blinkit has faced criticism for its business practices. In 2015, it was accused of predatory pricing and deep discounting, which led to protests by offline retailers.
