Healthcare in India[edit | edit source]

Although India has a universal healthcare model, it is mostly administered at the state level rather than the federal level. While the governments in the various states and territories of India do offer free, or almost free healthcare, due to the issues of quality of care, and lack of adequate facilities, most healthcare is provided in the private sector. In fact, the private health sector consists of 58% of the hospitals in the country, 29% of beds in hospitals, and 81% of doctors. According to National Family Health Survey-3, the private medical sector remains the primary source of health care for 70% of households in urban areas and 63% of households in rural areas
