Puducherry
Puducherry (formerly known as Pondicherry) is a Union Territory of India. It was formed out of four enclaves of former French India, namely Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.

Puducherry has a rich history influenced by French colonialism. The city of Pondicherry was established in 1674 as a French colony. It remained under French control until 1954, when it was incorporated into the Republic of India.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Puducherry is located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its unique blend of French architecture and Tamil culture. The territory is divided into four districts: Puducherry district, Karaikal district, Mahe district, and Yanam district.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Puducherry has a population of 1,394,467. The official languages are Tamil, French, and English.
