Uttar Pradesh is a state located in the northern part of India. It is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. The state is bordered by Rajasthan to the west, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi to the northwest, Uttarakhand and Nepal to the north, Bihar to the east, Madhya Pradesh to the south, and touches the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to the southeast. It covers a large part of the highly fertile and densely populated upper Gangetic Plain. Uttar Pradesh holds a significant place in India's history, culture, and religion, being the birthplace of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna, the incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu; it also plays a crucial role in Buddhism as the location of Sarnath, where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, and Kushinagar, where he is believed to have attained Parinirvana.

The history of Uttar Pradesh is very ancient and interesting. It was the main center of the Indus Valley Civilization and Vedic Civilization. Several empires and dynasties, including the Mauryan Empire, Gupta Empire, and Mughal Empire, have ruled the region. The state also played a significant role during the Indian independence movement, with events such as the Chauri Chaura incident contributing to the struggle against British rule.

Uttar Pradesh has a diverse landscape that includes fertile plains, rivers, and hills. The Ganges River, which is considered sacred in Hinduism, flows through the state, providing water resources for agriculture.
