Blount County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 135,280. The county seat is Maryville. Blount County is included in the Knoxville-Knoxville, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Blount County was created on July 11, 1795, from parts of Knox County and Jefferson County. It was named after William Blount, a signer of the United States Constitution and governor of the Southwest Territory.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 567 square miles (1,470 km²), of which 559 square miles (1,450 km²) is land and 8.2 square miles (21 km²) (1.4%) is water. The county is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.

As of the census of 2020, there were 135,280 people, 54,000 households, and 37,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 242 people per square mile (93/km²). There were 58,000 housing units at an average density of 104 per square mile (40/km²).

Blount County is served by several school districts, including Blount County Schools, Maryville City Schools, and Alcoa City Schools. Higher education institutions include Maryville College.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Blount County is served by several major highways, including U.S. Route 129, U.S. Route 321, and Interstate 140. The McGhee Tyson Airport is located in Alcoa and serves the greater Knoxville area.
