Bob Baumhower
Bob Baumhower (born August 4, 1955) is a former professional American football player who played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He is best known for his time with the Miami Dolphins, where he was a key player in the team's defensive line during the late 1970s and 1980s.
Early Life and College Career[edit | edit source]
Baumhower was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He attended North Palm Beach High School, where he excelled in football. After high school, he went on to play college football at the University of Alabama under legendary coach Bear Bryant. At Alabama, Baumhower was a standout player, earning All-American honors and helping the team to several successful seasons.
Professional Career[edit | edit source]
Baumhower was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 1977 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a dominant force on the defensive line, known for his strength, agility, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Baumhower was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the All-Pro team multiple times during his career.
During his tenure with the Dolphins, Baumhower played a crucial role in the team's success, including their appearance in Super Bowl XVII and Super Bowl XIX. He was known for his leadership on and off the field and was a key figure in the Dolphins' "Killer B's" defense, which was one of the most formidable defensive units in the NFL during the early 1980s.

After retiring from professional football, Baumhower transitioned into the restaurant business. He founded a successful chain of restaurants called Baumhower's Victory Grille, which has locations throughout Alabama. Baumhower has also been involved in various charitable activities and community service projects.

Bob Baumhower is remembered as one of the greatest defensive tackles in Miami Dolphins history. His contributions to the team and his impact on the game have left a lasting legacy. In recognition of his achievements, Baumhower was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
