Body for Life

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Body for Life is a 12-week diet and rigorous exercise program designed by Bill Phillips, a former competitive bodybuilder and owner of EAS, a manufacturer of nutritional supplements. The program emphasizes a combination of exercise and a healthy diet to achieve and maintain weight loss and muscle definition.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Body for Life program combines two elements: nutrition and exercise. The nutrition component promotes the consumption of small, frequent meals throughout the day, focusing on a balance of lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats. The exercise component consists of a rotation of weight training and aerobic exercise.

Nutrition[edit | edit source]

The Body for Life diet plan recommends eating six small meals a day, which is believed to stabilize blood sugar levels and increase metabolic rate. Each meal should contain a portion of protein and carbohydrates, as well as servings of vegetables. The program also encourages the consumption of EAS nutritional supplements, such as protein shakes and bars.

Exercise[edit | edit source]

The exercise component of the Body for Life program consists of a 12-week plan that alternates between weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise. The program recommends three days of weight lifting (focusing on alternating muscle groups) and three days of aerobic activity each week, with one day of rest.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The Body for Life program has been both praised for its structured, easy-to-follow format and criticized for its promotion of EAS products. Some critics argue that the program's success is largely due to its emphasis on regular exercise and balanced nutrition, principles that are common to many successful weight loss programs.
