Bord Bia
Bord Bia (English: Irish Food Board) is an Irish state agency with the aim of promoting sales of Irish food and horticulture both abroad and in Ireland itself. It acts as a link between Irish food, drink, and horticulture suppliers and existing and potential customers throughout the world. Bord Bia's headquarters are in Dublin, Ireland.
History[edit | edit source]
Bord Bia was established by the Irish Government in 1994 to act as a unifying body for the Irish food and drink industry. It was created in response to the growing global demand for high-quality food and drink products, and the need for a coordinated approach to marketing these products internationally.
Role and Functions[edit | edit source]
Bord Bia's main role is to act as a catalyst for the development of the Irish food, drink, and horticulture sectors. It does this by providing strategic market intelligence, promoting the Irish food and drink industry abroad, and helping Irish companies to develop their export potential.
Bord Bia operates a number of quality assurance schemes for the food industry. These schemes set out the standards that food producers must meet in order to display the Bord Bia Quality Mark on their products. The Quality Mark is a sign that the food has been produced to the highest Bord Bia standards.
Initiatives[edit | edit source]
Bord Bia has launched several initiatives to promote Irish food and drink. These include the Origin Green programme, which is a sustainability programme that enables Ireland's food industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets. Another initiative is the Bloom in the Park festival, which showcases the best of Ireland's horticulture and food industry.
