Borrowed Time is a 2016 American animated short film directed by Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj. The film was produced by Amanda Deering Jones and features music by Gustavo Santaolalla. It was released by Quorum Films.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The film follows an aging sheriff who returns to the scene of a tragic accident that has haunted him for years. As he revisits the location, he is forced to confront his guilt and regret over the incident. Through a series of flashbacks, the sheriff relives the events that led to the accident, ultimately finding a sense of closure.

Production[edit | edit source]

Borrowed Time was created by Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj, who both worked at Pixar Animation Studios at the time. The film was produced independently over the course of five years, with the creators working on it during their spare time. The film's score was composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, known for his work on films such as Brokeback Mountain and Babel.

Borrowed Time received critical acclaim for its mature themes and emotional depth. It was praised for its animation quality and storytelling. The film was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2016.
