Bournemouth University (BU) is a public university in Bournemouth, Dorset, England, with its main campus situated in neighbouring Poole. The university was established in 1992; however, the origins of its predecessor date back to the early 1900s.
History[edit | edit source]
The university's origins can be traced to the early 20th century with the foundation of the former Bournemouth Municipal College. In the 1970s, it became the Bournemouth College of Technology, and later the Dorset Institute of Higher Education. In 1990, it was renamed Bournemouth Polytechnic and finally gained university status in 1992, becoming Bournemouth University.
Campuses[edit | edit source]
Bournemouth University operates primarily from two campuses:
- Talbot Campus: Located on the boundary between Bournemouth and Poole, this is the main campus and houses the majority of the university's faculties and facilities.
- Lansdowne Campus: Situated closer to the town centre of Bournemouth, this campus is home to the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences and the Faculty of Management.
