Braastad
Braastad is a brand of cognac produced by the Tiffon company, which is located in the town of Jarnac, in the Charente department of France. The brand is named after Sverre Braastad, a Norwegian who married into the Tiffon family and took over the management of the company in the early 20th century.
History[edit | edit source]
The Tiffon company was founded in 1875 by Médéric Tiffon. In 1913, Sverre Braastad, who had moved to France from Norway, married Edith Rousseau, the granddaughter of Médéric Tiffon. Sverre Braastad took over the management of the company and expanded its operations. Under his leadership, the company grew significantly and became known for producing high-quality cognac.
Production[edit | edit source]
Braastad cognac is made from grapes grown in the Cognac region of France. The production process involves several steps, including harvesting the grapes, fermenting the juice, distilling the wine, and aging the cognac in oak barrels. The aging process is crucial for developing the flavor and character of the cognac. Braastad offers a range of cognacs, from young VS (Very Special) to older XO (Extra Old) varieties.
Products[edit | edit source]
Braastad produces several types of cognac, including:
- Braastad VS
- Braastad VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale)
- Braastad XO
- Braastad Extra
- Braastad Organic
Each type of cognac has its own unique flavor profile, which is influenced by the age of the cognac and the specific blend of eaux-de-vie used in its production.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Sverre Braastad's legacy continues through the Braastad brand, which remains a family-owned business. The company is known for its commitment to quality and tradition, and its cognacs are enjoyed by connoisseurs around the world.
