Brandon Morrow (born July 26, 1984) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Morrow was born in Santa Rosa, California. He attended Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park, California, where he excelled in both baseball and basketball. After high school, Morrow attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he played college baseball for the California Golden Bears.

Professional career[edit | edit source]

Seattle Mariners[edit | edit source]

Morrow was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the first round, fifth overall, of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft. He made his MLB debut with the Mariners on April 3, 2007. Initially used as a relief pitcher, Morrow transitioned to a starting pitcher role during his time with the Mariners.

Toronto Blue Jays[edit | edit source]

On December 22, 2009, Morrow was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Brandon League and minor league outfielder Johermyn Chavez. Morrow had a breakout season with the Blue Jays in 2010, including a near no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays on August 8, 2010, where he struck out 17 batters.

San Diego Padres[edit | edit source]

Morrow signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Padres on December 16, 2014. His time with the Padres was marred by injuries, limiting his appearances.

Los Angeles Dodgers[edit | edit source]

Morrow signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on January 25, 2017. He was called up to the majors on May 29, 2017, and became a key part of the Dodgers' bullpen, helping the team reach the 2017 World Series.

Chicago Cubs[edit | edit source]

On December 12, 2017, Morrow signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Cubs. He served as the Cubs' closer for part of the 2018 season but was again limited by injuries.

Pitching style[edit | edit source]

Morrow is known for his powerful fastball, which can reach speeds of up to 100 mph. He also throws a slider, a curveball, and a changeup, making him a versatile pitcher capable of both starting and relieving.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Morrow is married to his wife, Lily, and the couple has one child. They reside in Scottsdale, Arizona during the offseason.
