Brian Calley
Brian Calley (born March 25, 1977) is an American politician who served as the 63rd Lieutenant Governor of Michigan from 2011 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Calley was previously a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Brian Calley was born in Dearborn, Michigan. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1994. Calley earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Grand Valley State University. He also holds a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Michigan House of Representatives[edit | edit source]
Calley was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2006, representing the 87th district. During his tenure, he served on several committees, including the House Tax Policy Committee and the House Health Policy Committee.
Lieutenant Governor of Michigan[edit | edit source]
In 2010, Calley was selected as the running mate of Rick Snyder in the Michigan gubernatorial election. The Snyder-Calley ticket won the election, and Calley was sworn in as the 63rd Lieutenant Governor of Michigan on January 1, 2011. He was re-elected in 2014.
As Lieutenant Governor, Calley focused on issues such as autism advocacy, mental health reform, and economic development. He chaired the Mental Health and Wellness Commission and was instrumental in the passage of autism insurance reform in Michigan.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Brian Calley is married to Julie Calley, who is also a politician and has served in the Michigan House of Representatives. They have three children. Calley is known for his advocacy for individuals with disabilities, inspired by his daughter, who has autism.
Post-Political Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving office in 2019, Calley became the president of the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM), where he continues to work on issues related to economic development and small business advocacy.
