Bridgeport is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Located in Fairfield County, it is situated along the Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Pequonnock River. Bridgeport is part of the Greater Bridgeport area and is the fifth-largest city in New England.

Bridgeport was originally a part of the town of Stratford. The city was chartered in 1836 and has a rich history as an industrial center. It was once known as the "Arsenal of Democracy" during World War II due to its significant contribution to the war effort through manufacturing.
