The Brooklyn Dodgers were a Major League Baseball team that played in Brooklyn, New York City. The team was established in 1883 and played in the National League from 1890 until 1957, when they moved to Los Angeles and became the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The team was originally known as the Brooklyn Atlantics, named after an earlier team that had played in Brooklyn. Over the years, the team went through several name changes, including the Brooklyn Grays, Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Grooms, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers, and Brooklyn Robins, before finally settling on the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1932.

The Dodgers were known for their fierce rivalry with the New York Giants, which began when both teams were based in New York City. This rivalry continued even after both teams moved to California.

The Dodgers played their home games at several different ballparks during their time in Brooklyn. Their first home was Washington Park, where they played from 1884 to 1890 and again from 1898 to 1912. They also played at Eastern Park from 1891 to 1897. In 1957, team owner Walter O'Malley decided to move the Dodgers to Los Angeles, citing the need for a new stadium and better financial opportunities. The move was controversial and left many Brooklyn fans feeling betrayed. The team has since become one of the most successful franchises in Major League Baseball, winning multiple World Series titles in Los Angeles.
