Buffalo Calf Road Woman gained recognition for her bravery and leadership during the Battle of the Rosebud on June 17, 1876. She fought alongside her fellow Cheyenne warriors against the United States Army in a significant conflict that preceded the more well-known Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Buffalo Calf Road Woman's most famous moment came during the Battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876. According to Cheyenne oral tradition, she rode into battle to support her brother, Chief Comes in Sight, and struck down Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer. Her actions were said to have turned the tide of the battle in favor of the Native American forces.

Buffalo Calf Road Woman's bravery and heroism in battle have been celebrated in Cheyenne oral history and in various accounts of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. She remains a symbol of Native American resistance and strength in the face of adversity.
