Bugiri General Hospital

Bugiri General Hospital is a government-funded health care facility located in the town of Bugiri, in the Busoga sub-region, in the Eastern Region of Uganda. The hospital is situated approximately 75 kilometers, by road, east of Jinja, the largest city in the sub-region.

Bugiri General Hospital is a public hospital, funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health and general care in the hospital is free. It is one of the 129 hospitals in Uganda, of which 65 are government-owned. The hospital serves a catchment population of about 250,000 people, including residents from Bugiri District and neighboring districts.

Services[edit | edit source]

The hospital provides general medical services such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and pediatrics. It also offers HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, tuberculosis treatment, and Malaria prevention and treatment. The hospital has a bed capacity of 100.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Like many hospitals in Uganda, Bugiri General Hospital faces several challenges including inadequate funding, shortage of medical supplies, and a lack of sufficient medical personnel. The hospital also struggles with a high patient load, especially for HIV/AIDS and Malaria cases, which are prevalent in the region.
