Bungsberg

Bungsberg is the highest point in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Located in the Holsteinische Schweiz nature park, the Bungsberg stands at an elevation of 167.4 metres above sea level.

Geography[edit | edit source]

The Bungsberg is located in the district of Ostholstein, near the town of Schönwalde am Bungsberg. The hill is part of the Holsteinische Schweiz nature park, a region known for its rolling hills and lakes. The Bungsberg is the highest point in Schleswig-Holstein, a state otherwise known for its flat terrain.

Features[edit | edit source]

At the top of the Bungsberg, there is a 179-metre high transmission tower, known as the Bungsberg Transmitter. This tower is used for FM and TV broadcasting. There is also a 102-metre high observation tower, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. In winter, the Bungsberg is a popular location for sledding and other winter sports.

The Bungsberg has been a significant location for many centuries. Archaeological evidence suggests that the hill was used as a burial mound during the Bronze Age. In the 19th century, the Bungsberg was a popular destination for Romantic artists, who were drawn to its natural beauty.

Tourism[edit | edit source]

Today, the Bungsberg is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can hike to the top of the hill, visit the observation tower, or enjoy winter sports during the colder months. The Holsteinische Schweiz nature park, in which the Bungsberg is located, also offers a range of other outdoor activities.
