Bwera General Hospital
Bwera General Hospital is a government-funded hospital located in Bwera, a town in the Kasese District of Uganda. The hospital is a part of the Uganda Ministry of Health's network of public hospitals and is administered by the Uganda Ministry of Public Service.
Location[edit | edit source]
The hospital is situated in the town of Bwera, in the western region of Uganda. It is approximately 12 kilometers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo border, making it a crucial healthcare facility for both Ugandans and Congolese.
Services[edit | edit source]
Bwera General Hospital provides a range of healthcare services, including General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Emergency Medicine. The hospital also has a dedicated Infectious Disease unit, which played a crucial role during the Ebola outbreak in 2019.
Capacity[edit | edit source]
The hospital has a bed capacity of 100, serving a population of over 200,000 people in the Kasese District. Despite its limited resources, the hospital staff strive to provide quality healthcare services to the community.
Challenges[edit | edit source]
Like many public hospitals in Uganda, Bwera General Hospital faces several challenges, including inadequate funding, shortage of medical supplies, and a high patient-to-doctor ratio. The hospital also grapples with the high prevalence of infectious diseases such as Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and Ebola.
Future Plans[edit | edit source]
The Uganda Ministry of Health has plans to upgrade the hospital to a regional referral hospital. This upgrade will increase the hospital's capacity and enable it to provide specialized healthcare services.
